I was born in Pocahontas, Arkansas, on May 15, 1934.* I was a child when we moved to Hayti, Missouri, located in the boot heal of Missouri. We lived in a house that leaked; water would come into the house from the roof. You went up a few steps on the porch to open the door and walk into the house.
